Contractor job HV Cable Design Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced HV Cable Design Engineer to work on National Grid projects. This role involves both on-site presence in Birmingham and the flexibility of remote working, providing an excellent work-life balance. As an HV Cable Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, development, and implementation of high-voltage cable systems, ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop high-voltage (HV) cable systems for National Grid projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project specifications.
Conduct detailed engineering analysis, including thermal, electrical, and mechanical calculations, to support the design and optimization of HV cable systems.
Prepare and review technical documentation, including design drawings, specifications, and reports.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, electrical engineers, and site personnel, to ensure seamless project execution.
Perform site visits and inspections as required, ensuring the proper installation and commissioning of HV cable systems.
Provide technical support and guidance to project teams, clients, and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Stay updated with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in HV cable design and engineering.

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
Proven experience in HV cable design engineering, preferably within the energy or utilities sector.
In-depth knowledge of relevant standards and regulations, including IEC, BS, and National Grid specifications.
Proficiency in using design software and tools such as CYMCAP, AutoCAD, and other relevant engineering applications.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform detailed technical calculations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
