Geographic Support Technician
A Geographic Support Technician produces vital information that allows commanders to understand their area and surroundings to plan missions effectively. Geographic data is put together and managed from a variety of sources using advanced technology and geographic information systems.
Communications Systems Operator
The role of a Communications Systems Operator is to ensure that the communications network is working efficiently and correctly for soldiers and commanders on the battlefield. This would include carrying out vulnerability assessments and learning computer forensics to track any unauthorised access to the Army’s systems.
Signals Installation Tech
A Signals Installation Technician will install, maintain and repair telephone systems and fibre optic networks. They would work closely with cable infrastructures and local area networks as well as closed-circuit television and video conferencing systems.
IT Systems Operator
An IT Systems Operator would use digital communications equipment to make sure troops get the information and analysis received information from spy planes and special observers. Communications are vital for commanders in today’s Army, on exercises and on operations.
Intelligence Operative
Intelligence Operatives are experts in operational and counterintelligence which are two disciplines at the heart of the Intelligence Corps. Requirements include gathering information on the enemy whilst maintaining their own cover. Intelligence is sourced from satellite pictures, spy plane photos, intercepted radio signals and tip-offs from locals.
HR Specialist
Like other organisations and companies, the Army will need financial, administrative and IT skills required to work with budgets, payroll, management and other admin duties. Someone in HR may provide human resources administration and financial support to all members of the unit.
Salary of IT Jobs in the Army
Regular soldiers can earn up to £18,125 with specialist IT roles providing extra pay depending on roles and responsibilities. Salaries increase annually for soldiers, regardless of promotion and extra responsibilities.
Qualifications
Qualifications for IT jobs in the army tend to require a GCSE grade C in English Language, Maths and three other academic subjects. Some specialist roles may require a relevant degree or diploma.
