Coming back to work and getting into a routine after having a long break over the Christmas period can be stressful and daunting, especially when you’re trying to stick to your New Year’s resolution list as well. Having leftover food from Christmas and with it still getting dark at around 4pm can make it so much harder to stick to your resolutions if you are trying to eat healthy and go to gym to exercise.

Creating a New Year’s resolution list in the first place is a great place to start if you are wanting 2019 to be a new fresh year! The only problem is sticking to them…

To help you create resolutions that last and actually get completed, here are some ways will enable you to be successful!

What to do

Set objectives

Setting targets alongside your New Year’s resolutions will help you to stick to them. Without having clear ways of tracking your progress, you’re more likely to not succeed in completing the things on your list.

Once you have created a plan to reach these objectives, you need to set yourself some achievable and measurable steps to reach in order to get to your end goal. This will help keep you motivated to achieving what is on your resolution list and you’re a lot less likely to lose sight of what your end goal is.

Get professional help if needed

If some of your activities on your resolution list require some professional knowledge, then do not be afraid to contact one!

If one of your resolutions was to learn a new language or get into a new sport, it may be easier to contact someone who has several years’ experience. Before you become unmotivated to reach your end goal because you are struggling to understand or learn your new activity, then you should seek professional as this can help.

Even if you are wanting to brush up on your technical skills to be able to get that dream job you want, it is beneficial for you to take a course. This not only can be nationally recognised and something to put on you CV but can also set you apart from other candidates when applying for jobs.

Tell your friends and family about them

Share your future experiences and objectives with you friends and family!

Having someone to talk to about all your resolutions that you want to achieve can help motivate you to reach them. It also enables you to share your struggles and successes with someone and this can help lead to a healthier lifestyle. Talking to someone about your failures can also help keep you motivated to not give up and feel intimidated by them.

Don’t beat yourself up if you revert to old habits, it’s going to happen

It is normal to revert back to old habits when trying to reach some of the things on your New Year’s resolution list. But if you do, don’t beat yourself up about this!

Just because you ate a brownie when you were supposed to be dieting, or you missed the gym a few times in a week because you were too busy, this isn’t a big deal! Sometimes it can be a physiological fault, because when you know you’re on a diet and you should be eating healthy, you start to crave unhealthy food. It is always best to not cut unhealthy food out of your diet completely, especially if you eat it frequently, as this can cause you to relapse as your body is used to digesting it.
