In the rather perplexing UK economy, the jobs market is experiencing a large growth to the number of jobs vacancies, which in turn, isn’t prompting the recovery that would be expected.

Amongst the confusion and the biggest contributor to the growth of job numbers in the UK is the IT jobs market.

The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) has released fresh data showing that IT had the strongest rate of expansion in terms of permanent staff recruitment in both February and March this year.

Kevin Green of REC explained his theory of this job-filled-non recovery: “The emergence of a two-speed labor market with a lack of candidates for highly skilled roles, at the same time as persistent level of unemployment.”

In essence, although there are many unemployed candidates looking for jobs, they may not be what employers are searching for. Specifically within the IT jobs market, employers are willing to pay very rewarding salaries, but are struggling to find candidates with sufficient experience or the right skills set.

Mr Green went on to say: “It’s a worrying trend that is particularly problematic across IT and engineering.” He continued, “Persistent shortages in these areas could have a disastrous impact on critical infrastructure projects.
