As the year is coming to an end we understand the thought of searching for a new career may be at the back of your mind with Christmas on its way.

But don’t forget, there is no time like the present. Don’t let the thought of Christmas hold you back as employers are seeking new candidates all year round.

If you are going to wait until the New Year to search for a new career then make sure your CV is completely up to date and that it says the right things about you. Your CV is so important when job hunting as it is a tool which will generate interviews for you. Here are a few tips to make sure your CV is up to scratch:

  • Make sure your CV has a clear structure
  • The summary and key skills area is the most important area so make sure it has all the information about your experience
  • The CV should be no more than 2 pages- quality not quantity
  • You don’t need to write about your hobbies, just focus on your skills, experience and job history
  • Make sure your CV is positive and don’t lie about your experience
  • If you are unsure about the quality of your CV then get it reviewed for free by clicking here.

It may have been a few months or a few years since your last interview so along with your CV being up to date, it’s important that your interview skills and knowledge are too. We also have a few tips to help you prepare for an interview:

  • First thing’s first, make sure you’ve researched the company as they are likely to ask you what you know about the company and the job role
  • Ensure you are dressed smartly and arrive on time- first impressions are very important
  • Preparation is key- take a pen and paper with you and make sure you have plenty of questions to ask them
