Oracle is set to close down it's UK software support centre which would result in the loss of 1,000 support staff, according to reports from The Register. The company plans to move all it's European support to Romania with news that other support centers around the world intend to close under global 'rationalisation plans.'

The move could affect the current software support operation in the UK with reports that calls are being diverted to the US support centre. Romania will appear to be the only support centre for Europe once it opens in 2016 and similar plans to close support centres across the US looks to be the next phase. Egypt's support centre had also seen the axe a few weeks ago with other European centres also closing down this year. There were also reports that France and Australia will also be closing down early next year alongside the UK.

"The US appears unaffected, but I'm not 100 per cent sure whether it escapes completely, and this action does appear to affect UK support across all product lines," said an ex Oracle employee.

Despite the news of the closure, an Oracle spokesperson claimed that the company was in process of consolidating its software support services into co-located entities. Even though this is likely to impact the current software support operation in the UK, the rest of Oracle's operations in the UK would not be affected.
