With universities up and down the country – where exactly do all the graduates go after graduation? And where is the best place to land an IT Graduate job?

New statistics released from the AGR – Association of Graduate Recruiters has shown (very unsurprisingly) that London is the key location for IT Graduate jobs with over 42% of those on offer being located in the Capital. Their findings also informed us that the next most likely place to secure an IT Graduate job is the South East – in the areas surrounding London.

The more interesting side of their research looks more in depth in to the salaries you could expect to earn in certain locations around the country. Their findings have revealed that although the number of jobs available in the Capital are considerably higher, you are unlikely to be earning a significantly higher salary than other areas – especially when you consider that you will have to have overcome much greater levels of competition to secure your placement in the first place and will be subject to much higher living costs. The advantage does begin to show later on in your career however, where IT professionals in London do tend to be able to reach the higher ends of the pay scale. Here is a list of the average salaries you could expect to start on in specific regions around the UK:

  • London (42.4%) £28,500

  • South East (10.1%) £25,000

  • North West (6.5%) £24,500

  • West Midlands (6.0%) £24,000

  • South West (5.0%) £24,000

  • Scotland (4.8%) £24,750

  • East Midlands (4.5%) £24,000

  • Yorkshire and Humberside (4.1%) £24,500

  • North East (2.7%) £24,000

  • East of England (1.8%) £24,000

  • Wales (1.3%) £24,250

  • Northern Ireland (1.1%) £23,000
