Hi Derek - how about setting your student photojournalistic type assignments? Perhaps encourage him to cover an event photographically but accompany the images with a report? If the cross over into technology interests him how about getting him to format it as if he was working as a web journalist?

more tips...
black coffee with cream - black treacle and pva wood glue
that just cooked look for chicken etc. - massage in some marmite
if you want to shoot something like a glass of beer with a chilled look to it give the glass a dusting with dulling spray and then use a plant spritzer to spray on a mix of glycerine and water
is this starting to sound like Viz Top Tips with Roger Mellie?

I have clients in Europe, the US and Australia. This is a little backwards from what you're doing but I tend to negotiate contracts in their local currency. However, my accounting software (MYOB Business Basics - excellent bit of kit especially suited to freelancers and sole traders) only lets me invoice in GBP. I do a quick online currency conversion then add the result and the rate to the invoice as a note.
When I print off my invoices I highlight the GBP amount then write by hand €xxx, US$xxx or AU$xxx to pay. When I reconcile the account on payment I use the GBP amount and add another note XXX paid in local currency.
Might seem a bit convoluted but it keeps the books balanced and HMRC happy!

Having stumbled across the site I thought it would be rude not to sign myself up! Look forward to being able to quiz and contribute in equal measure. 🙂
