Hi Derek,
Im a full time Press Photographer - Generally I find that there is very little requirement for written english within the job although it is important to be able to caption photographs acurately (peoples names) otherwise it does lead to complaints etc. When going for a job 80% will be down to the portfolio and the rest personality and organisational skills!
