Hi
I work as a conveyancer and normally employed on a short term contract. However, I have been out of work for 5 mths and was approached by an old boss of mine who would like me to work for her on a self employed basis and just invoice the company. At first I didn't like the idea but was seduced by the prospect of being be paid weekly.
I have no idea how to go about this and how to make the tax and contributions and I do not even have a precedent invoice but I understand I could search on the internet for one.
If anyone has a basic invoice for services that I could copy and could advise me what my next step should be with regard to the tax and NI contributions that would be very much appreciated. This job will only be for approx 2 months and then I may find myself unemployed again as the property market is extremely quiet due to the credit crunch.
Thank you in advance for any help and advice given.

Its really very simple.
You have upto three months to register as self employed. Best bet to ring HM Customs they will explain what you have to do, and if dosent work out how you would mentioned any tax you may owe if you start and then realise that its not for you.
Newcastle for NI Payments. Department of work and pensions, I believe.
Good luck -
