I have been working as a freelance graphic designer for 6 years now. I have just been registered as a sole trader and had an accountant do my accounts and tax return. I've had no real issues with that until recently where I have come across clients and recruitment agencies who will only work with me if I am a Limited Company.
I have done a lot of research in to this and was even introduced to a company called Crunch.co.uk. From what I can see (I have done a free trial) Crunch seem to be pretty good and have been so helpful, they make becoming Limited seem so straight forward and easy to manage. My acountant however is of a different view and is pleading with me not to become Limited.
I really don't know what to do, can anyone offer me any advice? I am tempted to go Limited but I don't know if I am just complicating things for myself and going to cost myself more in the long run.
Thanks!

I'm still a sole trader right now, doing a little freelance work on the side, but if I ever form my own limited company, I'll probably go with SJD contractor accountants because they specialise in small businesses. -

When you say your accountant is 'pleading with you not to become Limited' is that an accurate description, or is it more that they are advising against the switch? It implies different things. A competent accountant will weigh up the pros and cons of each route with you (as mine did when I first set up) and come to a conclusion over which way is best, explaining the reasons for that as they work through it. Obviously though, accountants tend to look at the figures and the bottom line - they can sometimes overlook the issues of how you will be perceived and whether one route or other will be a help or hinderance to getting work in the first place.
Have a full conversation with your accountant and take their advice on board - that's why you pay them after all. If still in doubt speak to a different accountant and see what they say - a second opinion costs nothing.Opus Creative Design Ltd
