Hi hope some one can point me in the right direction....
Is there anyway to set up home business using a different address - what is the legality of this?
I want to sell photos, illustrations and do the odd bit of freelance design. I don't want clients visiting. In fact most of my work won't be done from home. I just need to register my address with HMRC...
For instance can I set up using my parents address, or my friends studio even though I won't actually be doing anything there?
How do most people deal with this?
Many Thanks

Should I assume from the fact that you mention rented accommodation in the title and then don't refer to it again that your concern is the standard (I think) wording in an assured shorthold tenancy agreement or whatever they call them that prevents you running a business from that address? I think I'd be tempted to ring HMRC and ask them what the situation is, or possibly BusinessLink or someone. I think you do need to provide a physical address (as opposed to a PO Box no.) to register, don't you? And I wonder whether there would be any other implications if, say, you used your parents' address?Freelance technical translator, French and German into English -
