Hi, I am a freelance photographer in Pennsylvania, USA. I shoot for a local newspaper as a 'stringer'. When I go to an assignment I usually shoot more photos then needed and I am paid on publication. Recently this paper began a new photo sharing site on their website. What they are doing is using 1-2 photos in the paper (hard copy) and placing the rest in a folder in the photo sharing website. On their website the photos can be viewed or purchased.
This is where the controversy comes in. To me- if the photos are used on the website and people can view and purchase the photos, this constitutes 'using the photos' and I feel I should be paid.
They don't see it that way.
What do you think and can something be done?
thanks for viewing,
Matt
