Hi everyone,
I'm starting a web design business as a freelancer and I'm looking for a name. My current best candidate is : "Ansar Design". Someone told me that I should avoid indian/pakistani sounding names like "Ansar" because many people associate such names with low quality.
Do you agree with that and would you advise me to choose something else?

As an IT consultant and software developer, I've worked with lots of Indians and they do great work. Many of the tech blogs I read are written by Indians/Pakistanis. The only turn off I can think of is bad English skills but you're English seems quite good and I'm sure your website/marketing will reflect that.
I suppose you have to look at your target demographic and what their perceptions might be but I think it's a good name. -

It's obviously all about you and the personal service you provide, which is why people use their name as their company name, but if you want to jump off the page at potential customers perhaps think about something that better says how you do things or why customers should choose you? Think about Innocent wanting to reflect no nasties in their smoothies. What is it that'll you be doing that's different to you local competitors?
At the end of the day you'll be building and expanding your customers' businesses online - you won't just be designing websites. -

It is important to remember that a new brand means nothing until a reputation is established. If your Ansar brand creates cheap websites and delivers poor customer support, then yes, it will be a poor brand. But if Ansar delivers results above and beyond what clients expect, then Ansar will stand for quality and dependability. At this point, the brand name's value is up to you. -

They ask you business name and you 'Answer' Ansar. Anything that can be spelt wrongly or mis-interpreted is bad news, and nothing to do with any Asian connotations, as previously said, there is an English racism slant on Pakistani/Indians, but even putting those two nations together in the same sentence can cause problems.
As an Englishman living in SE Asia, I'd like to teach the UK a lesson, but it would never work. Best to stay safe and play the business name/branding very carefully to maximise profits without alienating anyone. For example, my company is my username. A bit nondescript but memorable ( I hope).
