Hi there
I work for a medium-sized company - around 3,000 employees - and we want to create a monthly/quarterly updates magazine for staff.
We're looking at either an 8, 16 or 24 paged magazine, depending on frequency. We've tried printing a newsletter in Publisher, but we're getting bigger now and want something professional. We don't want to cut corners and want a quality publication.
Does anyone have an idea how much we should be roughly paying a graphic designer to put this together per issue and how long it is likely to take? If it helps we're based in north west England.
A ballpark figure would be great, before we meet and speak to potential designers.
Thanks
Jim

The first issue would be more expensive as you will need to establish the design for the publication. A couple of design routes and two or three rounds of revisions between you and the agency should be no more than £1,200.
Artworking of each issue - helps to work on a per page basis or between £85 and £120 depending upon complexity of information, presence of tables, graphs, image research etc etc. I'm sure you will get discounts on the page rate the more you opt for.
I would suggest that (ball park) you would be looking at roughly £2k for the first issue of an 8 pager and 1k for subsequent editions, £2.9k for first 16 pager and £1.7k thereafter, £3.4k and £2.2k thereafter.
Cost of print will depend on many variables but there are some great deals to be had from printers at present. Good luck! -

Hi Jim
Well the costs that Cooperwood gave you are normal if you're going to one of the agencies in Manchester. However, myself being a freelancer, will cost much less. I produce a 48-page magazine for a company and charge £30 per page (an hour).
Cooperwood is correct in saying that the initial set up will be more, but once it is set up, the next issue should be much less. My company is O Creative and to produce an 8-page magazine I would charge (for initial set up), £600, for a 16-page, £1200 and for a 24 page £1800. If you want to contact me please do. I have 14years experience. I am based in Manchester, UK
