Hi all,
I have just started out as a freelance editor/journalist. I work on a specialist magazine. It's my dream job, and lots of responsibility (let's forget the finance situation, however!!) the problem at the moment is adjusting to working from home.
I used to work for a huge company in a busy office and so I'm finding it pretty hard to adjust now. I have always been self-motivated and am comfortable with my own company but I'm finding this pretty lonely. Does anyone have any tips/suggestions?
I'm hoping that signing up to an online forum of fellow home workers will help...
cheers all
Annie

I agree it can be lonely sometimes, even though working from home is my dream and I do prefer it so much to working in an office.
Joining a forum could definitely help. So often in offices people seem to just email anyway, it hardly seems to be much different!
I try to get out and about most days for a cup of tea with a local friend or just to do errands and shopping and I find it really helps.
Also, I usually have the radio on and I find it cheers me up loads more than sitting in silence. I guess it depends on whether you can concentrate though.
I think signing up to a good forum will be a good first step though.
Hope it goes well.

Yes, having the radio on is a good idea. Apart from this one, do you know of any other forums?
There are of course lots of bonuses to working at home, and I'm sure I'll start to really enjoy it when I get stuck in to my new job, but the Winter months are always a drag, eh?
Boo! :confused2 -

I think Journobiz is also pretty busy and helpful for work-related chat too.
