Hi I am a new freelance web designer/developer and I am self employed and glad to find this site.
A question I have is: Is it common to outsource work on certain aspects of project to other businesses and other freelancers. Would it be right in doing this and does client need to know ? And what if client found out.
Is this normal practices in the web designing industry. I guess some people might be good at coding and not so good on customizing graphics.
Any advice would be appreciated.
thanks, Adam

The answer to your question is yes it's called sub-contracting. Businesses do this because they may require skills for a project that they do not have available to them in-house and/or because it is more cost effective to do so.
Freelancers are no different in this respect. As for informing the client, it may be necessary depending on the project but you should not think of this as being a negative.
All the client cares about is that you deliver the end result to their satisfaction.
Hope this helps
