New laptop for web development

For web development you will want a laptop with a reasonable quantity of RAM, for example 16GB to start. Also consider laptops with a competent CPU which will allow you to put together and test your code quicker. Plenty of screen space is helpful as well, and a comfortable keyboard for typing for long periods of time.

I use a Macbook Pro which is great and does everything I need it to do.

16G would be a minimum (crashed sometimes with OOM) for Windows with IntelliJ, local Node server etc. I have a 32 GB and it's comfortable.

For freelance web development, consider a laptop with a powerful processor like an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 for smooth multitasking and compiling code. Aim for at least 16GB of RAM to handle resource-intensive tasks efficiently. Opt for a fast SSD with ample storage to store project files and applications. A high-resolution display with accurate color reproduction ensures comfortable long hours of coding. Look for a lightweight and portable design for flexibility. Recommended options include the MacBook Pro, Dell XPS series, or Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, balancing performance, portability, and reliability for your freelance projects. Choosing a laptop for work and there to find freelance job sites is key. My advice to you is to look for a powerful processor, 16GB of RAM for smooth operation and SSD storage for fast booting. Weight and size matter if you're mobile. Macbooks are popular but expensive, consider a Windows or Chromebook as well!
