The opportunity
Business Services is the engine that drives our core loyalty capabilities, including identity, membership, currency & redemption domains that provide microservices and data products.
As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead the engineering team within the Business Services, ensuring we deliver high standards in software development, quality assurance, and security, while overseeing the growth of our engineering talent.
You'll play a key role in creating an enhanced engineering culture
What you'll get up to
You'll guide the Squad by leading Tech Leads, Software Engineers, and Data Engineers (14 permanent team members, 3 direct reports) as well as overseeing a number of contract engineers
- You'll set the Bar High by defining and enforcing engineering, security, and data quality standards in Business Services at IAG Loyalty
You'll coach and develop team members, identifying opportunities for training and growth
- You'll collaborate with product teams to rotate individuals across products to optimise skills and development
You'll foster an engineering community of practice within Business Services
You'll positively influence decision-making with engineering principles in mind
You'll champion Diversity by ensuring we have an equitable and inclusive team culture
What we need from you
Leadership & Technical Expertise: Proven experience as an Engineering Manager with a background as a Tech Lead, particularly on backend services
Backend Development: Proficient in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices, with a solid understanding of cloud technologies, ideally AWS
Operational Accountability: Skilled in managing both development and operations with ownership of Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Agile & DevOps Culture: Experience with agile methodologies, DevOps principles, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices
Architecture & Design: Competence in AWS and microservices architecture, with knowledge of domain-driven design
Security & Testing: Familiarity with security best practices, testing approaches, monitoring, and observability tools
Collaborative & Inclusive: Ability to communicate with non-technical colleagues and build strong, inclusive teams focused on equity, diversity, and high performance
The role has a blended base, between our Central London office and home. We trust you to make the right decision about the type of work that is best done in each location. We expect you'll achieve a 50/50 split between the two and there may be times where you'll want to visit our other locations to tell their stories, too (fully reimbursed).
