Yes - approach every magazine, website, editor you can find and do your pitch - you must do the leg work I'm afraid - there is no easy way of doing this, or if there is I certainly haven't found it!!

Foggy70, post: 1088 a écrit : Hi

I am moving in to freelance photography and basically have 4 jobs (festivals) lined up for this summer and I am wondering if anyone can advise me on who to go to get photos published. Is there anyone out there that writes for the music that could possibly assist me please?

Should I go direct to the magazines? An agent?

HELP

Thanks to anyone that helps
Steve

Arps, post: 460 a écrit : Hi!!

I'm just thinking about becoming freelance - any help to the following questions would be much appreciated.

1) I've been in the world of work as a perm employee for about 2 and 1/2 years now in total - is that long enough to get decent paying marketing jobs?
Depends what you have learned in that 2 years! I would have thought that it was certainly enough to make a start as a freelancer - you must have picked up a fair bit of knowledge in those 2 years which would be useful to a variety of different places?
Arps, post: 460 a écrit : 2) what are the going rates for account/senior account managers these days?

A quick search on jobserve or one of the many other job boards will give you an idea of what you can expect, but try to look at it from the other point of view ie what are you worth to them? the going rate might be £50k, but if you can prove you can bring in £1m of business they might well pay you more.
Arps, post: 460 a écrit : 3) i've heard that freelancers can now get holiday - is this true? 🙂

Yep - take a holiday when you like. Just don't expect to be paid for it!!!

I agree with Mickey - I have bought quite a few bits and pieces from the US and whilst they are very cheap on the face of it (especially with the exchange rate being what it is), if they do get stopped at Customs they can really whack on the charges with the import duties, handling charges and so on.

w i l l, post: 255 a écrit : Hellooooooo.

Does anyone know of any sites/ways of finding out about shared office space for designers (apart from Gumtree). I had a look at some office space here in Bournemouth but it's all a bit cheesy. I reckon I could get a better price and a cooler looking office by renting from another established design company. Maybe I should just contact some and ask the question. I've been to meet quite a few companies in London that share office space...

Regards.
Have you looked at service offices (like Regus)? They are usually nicely fitted out and come with everything you could want.

Pricey way of doing things admittedly, but very easy, and a limited notice period if you don't like it.

Good question!

I've been doing this for years and always believed it to be fine to use others quotes providing you are not holding them out to be quotes directly made to you.

Thinking about it I have no legal reason to believe this to be true, but I've never been pulled up on it!

standerino, post: 210 a écrit : Hi guys. I'm currently a first year Journalism student, and have a question regarding using other people's quotes.. Simply, can you do it (legally)? Or is the person who conducts the interview the sole holder of the information? The reason I ask this question, is because I'm currently writing a football (soccer for the Americans!) match report, and wondered If I can use quotes gathered from others that have interviewed the managers and players i.e. the BBC..

thanks for your help, and sorry if this is in the wrong section!

Mine was necessity. Employer went bust, so got thrown into freelancing as a way to make ends meet initially.

Not looked back and certainly wouldn't change things now!

web_freak2006, post: 99 a écrit : Hey new to the forum- i didnt quite understand that post - how can you be put down as self employed when your still working fulltime? this is what i am wanting to do too and have just got the idea in my mind this morning.
Nothing to stop you being both at the same time. I used to work full time and then kicked off the freelancing career by doing bits in the evenings/weekends etc.
