Whatabout setting up a website with galleries on it, then only use low resolution images that are clearly watermarked copyright.
Send out letters and bizzy cards and an email to all newspapers and magazinnes before the events with, then as soon as the event is photographed get the images on (sameday if possible) and again email the magazines and newspaper companies with a link to your site.
Have a reference for each image and make it easy for them to request copies of images - email and telephone numbers on every image.
