PointandStare, post: 7048 a écrit : Holsten campaign has 2 spelling mistakes.
There's also the stationary, Mojo. Quite a lot of designers on this forum offer stationary but it doesn't make it right. Remember, stationEry is Envelopes - otherwise it's just standing still and who wants to do that?

Your boss is on really shaky ground if the other freelancers are full-time and working only for the studio because as far as the Inland Revenue is concerned they would be employees and the studio should be responsible for their tax and NI. Maybe that's where your boss is getting the six months idea. You can have freelancers work for you for as long as you like provided they're truly self-employed and work for more than one company. If you were forced into going freelance yourself you'd need to have at least one other source of earnings to stay within tax rules. I'm assuming there aren't vast numbers of other similar jobs around or you wouldn't be in this dilemma but from the outside it looks as though looking for a new job is your best bet... Freelancing is precarious and if you're not convinced of the advantages I'd say don't be pushed into it. Good luck.

Good advice

Many thanks, Michael and Copywriter-H - it's easier than I thought. Got two mile-long code numbers from my bank. Yes, good to be paid in euro - for payment in dollars you certainly need every extra crumb they offer you. Living in Spain for part of the year and keeping a euro account there is the next step... Thanks again.

I am about to start some work for an Italian client and wondering if anyone has any experience or advice about the best way to ask overseas clients to pay. I want to look professional but not lose too big a chunk of the fee in bank or PayPal charges! What do other people do about receiving small amounts in other currencies?

The accounts guy of your main client was right. The view of the Inland Revenue is that if you work for only one client you are not self-employed but employed by that client, therefore they are responsible for your NI and tax. It sounds as though you are OK, Mrs Woo, as you have two - just be careful to hang on to the other one. Actually, there's another good reason for having more than one client because if they stop using you for whatever reason you're back to square one. It can happen more easily than you think. And Sarah from Intempo's right about making sure you pay your NI and keep records. I'd also recommend getting an accountant to help sort out your tax self-assessment form. It's not that expensive and they can give good advice and maybe save you tax. 🙂

That's so true what Ardesco says. I get Virgin through my BT line and when it works it works fine, but if ever anything goes wrong with the BT line that affects your broadband it turns into a nightmare, mainly because BT will only speak to the service provider. So the only person who's interested in getting it fixed quickly is left totally out of the loop. One (Virgin in my case) fobs you off for a week and the other - BT - only says "we can't talk to you". I almost changed to BT broadband when this happened...interesting to know you've had probs. with them...

This is a bit of a minefield. Incapacity benefit allows you to have some earnings on top of the benefit, but I don't think SSP does. Are you able to nip down to the local CAB tomorrow, or at least get on the phone to a benefits helpline to clarify your position? It may be that, if your employer agrees that you are able to do one type of work but not the type they were paying you for, you would be able to take on something else. However, I'm not sure whether this applies to looking for something new, as opposed to a second job you were already doing.

In any case, if you're in financial difficulties there may be other benefits you could apply for and you need to talk this over with the experts.

Best thing would be if your existing employer could find you computer-based work while you're recovering - or did you try that one?
