Hi all,
Please could anyone advise me on a price for a job please.
I have been feelancing for a couple of months and have been asked to design a 150-250page book, approx 40,000 words. It will have approx 15 images to include so will be text heavy.
I have never done a job this size before so I am finding it difficult to price as I normally quote a day rate but do not know how long this will take to work it out ths way. Also, if anyone could also give me an approximation on how long they would need time wise to produce.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Hi,
Good luck with this one, sounds like a massive task.
Made the mistake of taking on a health and safety manual many years ago for Stagecoach UK Bus, took me months to compile about 500 pages with text, graphics and photos.
I set it up in QuarkXpress as it was easier to link the pages and then drop the text into place.
Sorry no idea on a total cost?
Good Luck - Chris -

We did an A5 160pp book back in 2001. It was B/W throughout with a 16pp colour section in the middle which we charged the client at £1020.
Not sure if this helps.
We also charged £520 recently for a 64pp book but that was just text throughout plus we tried to keep the cost down as we were trying to win the client for other work which worked!
Cheers...Stu -

You could always charge a price per page, ie. work out how long it takes to do a page and multiply that by how many pages. Then work out a fee for any amends after.
