Hi there!
I'm Marina, and I'm new in this forum, and also freelancing. I'm from Spain but I'm living in UK, and I want to begin my freelance activity here as a Concept Artist and Illustrator. I was hired by a big company and I will be working with a local studio too, but for now, I'll be working with commissions, so I don't have neither a fixed salary yet, nor a fixed hourly rate, because it depends on the studio clients, the current project, and several factors.
I am lost trying to know how many taxes , when and how I should pay as a self-employed, or how can I claim business expenses. I was thinking about going throw an umbrella, as Crystal Umbrella or GoUmbrella, but they don't work with commissions, or without a fixed rate, someone knows if there's a way for me to go with that kind of company or where should I begin if it is a better way going self-employed?
I would really appreciate any kind of answer. Thanks a lot!

Have you considered setting up a limited company? Or working as a sole trader?
Best thing to do is speak to a local accountant who will be able to advise you further. -

I am trying to understand all the taxes, maybe if I need I will contact some job centre or an official free source. I thought about that, but I am beginning and I don't have enough to be paying an accountant for now. I suppose I will do my best, hehe.
