What you'll be doing:
Both working as part of a team and individually, develop and maintain all aspects of the computing infrastructure for the Synthetic Training Devices. Managing and motivating a small team of Systems and Software Engineers to:
- Define, derive and maintain requirements using DOORS
- Define, derive and maintain subsystem design documentation
- Develop, integrate and test all aspects of the computing infrastructure utilising a range of typical IT tools but also tailored and specialised simulation approaches and techniques
- Agree to and work to timescales, clearly understanding and providing regular feedback of progress and achievement
- Communicate effectively both within the team and to the engineering manager, identifying early potential risks, seeking clarification and direction
- Ensure that a good working knowledge of Aircrew Training Simulation Systems related product deliverables is maintained and that an awareness of interface points and dependencies within the wider team is established
- Ensure engineering backlog and achievement is managed through the JIRA toolset. Support estimate generation, establishing repeatable and standardised work breakdown structures supported by the CID Engineering Manager
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- A degree in a STEM subject or equivalent relevant experience. This may include professional qualifications in related toolsets.
- The ability to work diligently as part of a large and complex organisation
- Able to manage and motivate a small to medium sized team, as well as having a positive attitude towards continuous improvement and development of our people, processes and technology
- Highly effective communication skills and a proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Experience in some software management techniques and toolsets such as Agile and the suite of Atlassian toolsets - JIRA, BitBucket, Confluence etc. is highly desirable
Desirable:
- The ability to articulate information at different levels of detail for different audiences
- Any technical knowledge or experience of medium to large scale enterprise IT or Operational Technology based systems
- Any previous experience of knowledge of the working of Typhoon simulators and the synthetic training department

The Synthetic & Training Engineering Products Team:
An exciting opportunity exists for an ambitious and self-confident Engineer within the Synthetics & Engineering Products Team to take an active role in the development and on-going support of High-Fidelity Synthetic Training Devices.
The CID team are responsible for designing, developing, integrating, testing and on-going support (including patching) for all aspects of the Synthetic Training Devices computing infrastructure and networks. The training devices infrastructure utilises a range of operating systems, applications and tools, some common within a typical IT domain and others more specialised in nature. The scope of responsibility includes development and reference capabilities at Warton but also delivering and supporting RAF bases in Coningsby and Lossiemouth as well as our export customers in Qatar and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate will be a proactive, self-motivated person who has strong people management skills with a good solid technical background. You will need the ability to manage and support your team members in the development and delivery of the solution and will require effective communication skills and have a proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
There is the possibility of working on company business domestically and abroad in support of the training devices.
