Job title: Intelligent Systems Delivery Lead Engineer

Salary: £54,793 - £60,326 (Commensurate with skills and experience)
What you'll be doing:
- Define and articulate Intelligent Systems research activities coherently mapped to technology visions and road maps created in collaboration with and agreed by likely adoption stakeholders and internal technology strategy owners
- Lead the delivery of Intelligent Systems research activities outcomes in close alliance with internal and external partners, thinking beyond traditional Engineering Discipline and team boundaries, and driving effective collaboration between multi-disciplinary internal and external teams
- Guide the use of robust experimental principles and iterative design, development, integration, assessment and demonstration practices, underpinned by good Systems Engineering methods and associated Industry Standards where possible, to ensure all research outcomes are fully evidenced and are of a high quality
- Underpinning all work with high quality reports and appropriately targeted communications delivered to technology stakeholders
- Working with Project Management specialists, co-ordinating the delivery of projects to time, cost and quality requirements, providing timely reporting information into project-specific and Systems Technology & Capability Delivery reviews, and identifying, articulating and monitoring technical risks
- Forming new internal and external technology relationships, engaging with emerging and existing standards bodies, and contributing to Technology Watch and Capability Development activities to identify Intelligent Systems technology research opportunities
- Contributing technical content to Business Winning activities, including the development of business cases and proposals to steer Intelligent Systems research bids and internal investment activities
Your skills and experiences:
- Educated to degree / HND / HNC in a STEM subject and either have, or plan to pursue professional registration (i.e., IEng, CEng)
- Experimental approaches to evaluating research hypotheses in a logical and methodical manner
- Working within a research context where requirements and outcomes are often ill-defined and must be evolved through iterative development and assessment
- Stakeholder engagement and management, especially in the context of working with external partners and suppliers, and internal Engineering Disciplines
- Autonomy implementations relating to any type of platform or service, ideally including their qualification and certification for practical use
- Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies, including their potential benefits and challenges relating to their application to develop autonomous capabilities
- The use of synthetics-based approaches to develop, test/demonstrate and assess novel capabilities well before physical implementations are available
- The full Product/Systems Development Lifecycle for any type of platform or service
- You will ideally have a solid, hands-on practical grounding in the domain of Systems Engineering
The Falcon Systems Technology & Capability Delivery Team:
An exciting and rewarding opportunity has arisen for an Intelligent Systems Delivery Lead Engineer within The Systems Technology & Capability Delivery Team, part of the FalconWorks® organisation.
This team shapes the future direction of research and development and delivers technology value into our future products aligned with the Air Sector business strategy. Taking a multi-functional, whole product life cycle approach, we assess the future Air Sector product needs to identify technology trends and enact plans to mature early concepts through to exploitation. This is a very different operating environment to well-established requirements-led product development activities.
In this role you will provide engineering leadership for a dynamic, highly-collaborative, multi-disciplinary engineering team to design, develop and deliver novel Intelligent Systems concepts and capabilities for crewed and uncrewed applications, working collaboratively in the Technology Readiness Level 1-3 domain both internally and externally, and providing day-to-day Line Management for a small team of multi-disciplinary Engineers, to support a diverse portfolio of novel technology programmes across the FalconWorks® organisation under the application of appropriate Engineering Governance.
The ideal candidate will be a confident self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills who values collaboration and is confident in engaging with stakeholders at any level to build and sustain successful networks of contacts.
