I sleep right through a clock radio and beepy alarm. I have a back up plan in the form of two small boys who jump on the bed to make sure we wake up! I couldn't do mornings without them, although sometimes at the weekend it would be nice... :D
When I went freelance I had a goal to earn more from freelancing than when I worked for myself as a cleaner. Three weeks in, I've done it! AND the work was a lot nicer too. :glasses
Hi Ducky. That sounds around the right kind of price.
I'm similar to you regarding experience, been freelance for 10 years and charging £20.00 per hour. It may depend where you are, I'm talking about the Manchester/Cheshire region.
One thing I've started doing in my non-working time is learning how to build websites. I feel I need to stop digging my heels in now and embrace technology!
Hiya. In a word, yes! Get in touch with HMRC. You'll be paying NI contributions on your self-employed work as well as employed and your tax code will probably change as you no longer have just the one job but if you want to be legal, it's a must. I know someone who didn't declare and got caught out, then owed a fair bit of tax.
I think the problem has been my not specifying what rights I have sold clients. In future I will make sure they know they can use their logo on anything but must pay a more reasonable price to do so.
This is something I want to check before I start designing logos and charging peanuts for the work.
In the past I have designed logos for a client, charged say £100 for it and given them the artwork to use as and when they like. I have had a chat with a friend who said I should be getting paid every time the clients use my logo. This is where I've been more creative than businesslike, it's down to my ignorance really. Shouldn't the tutors have explained this in art college? :o
Anyway, I now believe I should have sold them the copyright for the logos for a lot more money. Is this correct?
Opus, post: 15899 a écrit : Are you looking to work for your own clients from home/your own office or are you aiming to be going into some of the more established agencies and working within their design teams? Out of interest, where are you based?
Hi Opus. I'll be working for my own clients as well as for agencies, as I used to in the olden days. Anything as long as it's not cleaning! :eyes
I'm my own client as well, I have a t-shirt shop on Spreadshirt.com where I upload my designs and people can buy my creations or use my designs to create their own clothes. It's a small ego boost when I make a sale!
Sunny Cheshire is my home county.
ezeapostle, thanks for the tip. I'll look into your suggestion. 😎
About 5 years ago I used to be a freelance graphic designer/artworker/illustrator, then I had two lovely babies, 14 months apart. You can imagine this made working very difficult so I changed my career and started a cleaning business to enable work to fit around my life.
I'm now giving up the domestic cleaning and going for it! Back into the scary world of freelancing. I'm also going to embrace modern technology and learn meself a bit of Dreamweaver and Flash while I'm at it. New year's resolutions time.
Ta for reading. Hope to make some new friends here.
