:eek2 Hi there,
I have not yet registered my company as I was tole when I rang HM revenue that I should register once I have my first piece of work. I have now completed my first project and recieved a cheque but it is addressed to my company name rather than me. I feel like I have got myself into hot water and I am not sure what to do. Maybe I should have used my name rather than a separate company name. I have also placed a local advert to gain work.
Not sure how to proceed. Please advice.

I am in the same situation. I have not registered my business yet and after completing my first project last week, now have a cheque written out to my company name. I have just opened a business account and just waiting to receive the account details etc. Today i completed as form to informed HM Revenue and Customs of my business. As long as you notify them within three months of you starting up it's ok. There is a helpline number you can ring for advice: 0845 9154515. If you open a business account asap in your business name you should get your account details etc within 2-4 days and then you can cash your cheque.

Thanks, thats useful. Its all rather complicated eh? Nevermind. As it happens someone else suggested setting up a separate account. I will go and do that tommorro.
