You got anything in writing to back it up, ie a signed contract? You can ask them to send through a copy of the administration details & get in touch with them & see if they can claw you some cash back.
Get them to sign your terms & cons as officially you are starting to design for them, even if its concept ideas. I would tread very carefully also, if they can not see your potential from 25 logos either they are planning to disappear with your idea or the 25 logos where crap lol
fortunatly I have access to a laser printer for my proofs, £20 is a nice round figure,if you find clients arnt biting you may have to drop a little, try & do a search in your area & find out what other freelances are charging, it may be that you have to under cut them all to get the ball rolling for now.
I try & find out exactly what the client wants down to every detail so the amendments are down to a minimum, of coarse there are exceptions where there will be silly amount of changes but yea all free, if the client heres the word free and the works good they will be back for more work from you, so ultimatley the free changes pay for them selves.
Charges depend on what your offering ie a web designer will charge more p/h than a graphic designer, also people in the north will charge less than people in the south, because your starting out you may want to think about starting on the lower end of the scale to build up a client base, or think about making it sound nice like 10% discount if payment is made within 2 days of approving the proof but work this out before you mention it lol. I charge £28.00 p/h with all amendments free & as many proofs as needed.
Remember get a signed a terms & conditions before you start, it makes a nice foundation for business relations.
I need to register a .ca canadian domain name but it seems harder than registering a .uk or .com domain, why is this? any good web sites where I can register a .ca domain would be grand!!
well I would usually produce about 3-4 mock ups in an hour to give you a rough idea, remember its easier to treat the designer as if he has no clue, mention every detail because it leaves less to chance. if you struggle to get the result you require drop me a line, cheers.
yea approaching colleges & universitys will keep the cost down but remember you will be dealing with designers that may have never had to take a real brief from concept and make print ready documents to send to the printers, I charge £28 an hour but yea a student may do it for portfolio peice for free. You would be best to nock up a brief outlining the key details you want in your art work ie. adress, tel, email, website, What food you will serve, do you have a colour theme,do you want interior & exterior pics of the restaurant maybe a small map? maybe get them to come up with a few concept ideas for you to pic from.
Let me know how you get on or if you would like to get a professional design service drop me a line.
Thought I would open it up maybe set in chapters ie a section for graphics, a section for photography etc. Just need to see who would contribute before i start compling.
Ok so this is more a show of hands to see if its feasable, im not after a proffit just so long as I can cover printing and distribution costs with people whos work will be showcased buying the books firstly. If this takes off of course I will approch retail outlets.
I have good contacts on the print side of things, and yes of course it will only contain the crem-de-la-crem of the artwork. It will be distributed around colleges and universitys. But I need to see how many people will get on board and put there work forward, thanks.
If I were to compile a book containing 1 peice of everyones best work with there name and a breif description ie. date - client - description. Then had it made up and sold it back to you as an entire book thus publishing your work, who would be interested?
I lived in Preston for 3 years when I was at uni cool place, yea as above the pricing is more down to the quality of the work, maybe test the water and strike a price that is towards the lower side of your quote just to make contacts and start the ball rolling. Good luck in making a fresh start tho.
depends on what you are freelancing, i mean a web designer with html & coding skills will charge more than a designer offering his flyer & business card service.
Not sure what your boss is like but most companys do not like there employees working else were at the same time, it boils down to the fact that they are scared you will do a runner with there clients or somthing along those lines, i would aproach telling them with caution.
good luck
