This role has been created to help bridge the gap between the cloud team and security, playing a crucial part in ensuring the organisation's cloud environment remains secure and resilient. As a Cloud Security Engineer, you'll focus on securing cloud infrastructure, implementing best practices, and helping shape security processes to tackle current and emerging threats. You'll work closely with both technical and non-technical teams, acting as a key point of contact between cloud and security disciplines. Key Responsibilities of the Cloud Security Engineer: â Ensure the security and integrity of cloud architecture by following and promoting security best practices.â Identify and respond to security risks and incidents, offering practical, actionable solutions.â Collaborate with internal teams across cloud, infrastructure, and security to ensure a cohesive approach.â Stay ahead of emerging threats and adjust security posture accordingly.â Communicate security risks, approaches, and resolutions to both technical teams and business stakeholders. Key Requirements of the Cloud Security Engineer: â Hands-on experience with AWS and a good understanding of cloud-native security principles.â Experience working with Terraform as IaC.â Previous exposure to cloud engineering/platform roles and Cloud Security Engineering positionsâ Understanding of networking architecture, particularly within cloud environments.â Familiarity with security frameworks such as ISO 27001, CIS, or NIST.â Knowledge of system, technology, and product life cycles and how security fits within them.â Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to operate across both technical and non-technical teams.â Ability to independently troubleshoot issues and propose sound technical solutions. We have built our entire banking platform in house and mostly in Java. We are looking for people who want to work on building the tooling that is used by our engineers on a daily basis. About the Role Our infrastructure spans across AWS, Google Cloud and our physical data centres to support our internal operations. You will work within the Security Engineering team to engineer and support the technical mechanisms that ensure that the bank's systems and data remain secure at all times. Designing, building and maintaining internal security tools, services and the infrastructure they run on; Helping the Security Team to automate security processes and procedures; Investigation, triage and management of security incidents; Contribution to Starlings secure architecture design; Requirements We're open-minded when it comes to hiring and we care more about aptitude and attitude than specific experience or qualifications. Below is an overview of experience that would be helpful: Experience in programming in Golang Knowledge of public cloud technologies, in particular AWS and GCP Some experience of using IAC technologies such as Terraform and Kubernetes Experience of working in any software development role; DevOps, SRE or Security Engineering experience is a nice to have Some knowledge of certification management, mTLS and SCEP is a plus A genuine enthusiasm for identifying security problems and building solutions to them Our process: Interviewing is a two way process and we want you to have the time and opportunity to get to know us, as much as we are getting to know you!
