Test Automation Engineer
Test Automation Engineer Position Description The Space, Defence and Intelligence business unit in CGI is a true IT Systems Integrator. Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold the UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This role will be based at a site in Reading or Leatherhead. Your future duties and responsibilities We are seeking a Test Automation Engineer to support our programme, which involves an across-the-board upgrade of both software and hardware systems. You will work within a dedicated team, focusing on automating and streamlining testing for new platform configurations, primarily on Windows Server 2016/2022. Reporting to the Application Team Lead, you will play a crucial role in transitioning automated testing frameworks and scripts from legacy systems to new platforms. This role offers a hybrid working pattern, with a mix of remote work and office attendance (primarily Reading or Leatherhead), including occasional on-site requirements for team meetings and access to specialised systems. Key Responsibilities • Script Evaluation & Uplift: Review and upgrade existing automated test scripts developed for Windows Server 2008, making them compatible with the new FTR platform (Windows Server 2016/2022). • New Script Development: Write new automated test scripts for the upgraded platform, drawing from existing manual scripts or developing from scratch with available resources. • Batch Process Configuration: Configure both uplifted and new automated scripts for repeatable overnight batch processing to optimize testing cycles. • Documentation & Release Preparation: Prepare and document your scripts for formal review and release, ensuring they meet program standards (Test Automation Release Process - TARP) and can be easily maintained and executed by other teams. Place all work under version control (using Git). • Progress Reporting: Provide regular, ideally programmatic, updates on the status of your work, maintaining transparency and visibility within the team. Required qualifications to be successful in this role • Automation Tool Experience: Prior experience with any test automation tools is preferred; knowledge of Eggplant is a plus but not mandatory, as training will be provided. • Technical Skills: Knowledge of PowerShell scripting is beneficial. Candidates with experience in automating tests for compiled applications (rather than web-based applications) will find this experience advantageous. • Detail-Oriented & Process-Driven: Ability to follow and contribute to the Test Automation Reference Architecture (TARA) and related standards. • Collaborative Mindset: Comfortable working within a team structure, with the flexibility to attend in-person meetings and access secure systems as needed. Development and Training We provide extensive support for professional development, including in-house courses and formal training through Keysight's Eggplant programs. Additionally, we offer opportunities for certifications such as Eggplant Functional eLearning and industry-recognized qualifications (e.g., ISTQB Test Automation Engineer).
