AWS Architect

CGI

AWS Architect Position Description Challenge yourself and change lives, unlocking complex system solutions as part of a highly motivated and supportive team. Our AWS Architects are trusted to work closely with a wide range of clients, delivering cloud-based consulting services across multiple clients in the UK. You'll play a part in shaping a growing practice within our business, offering opportunity to grow, both within AWS and other public cloud services. CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2024 and has been named one of the 'World's Best Employers' by Forbes magazine. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you'll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We'll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go. Our team delivers public cloud focused consulting services, providing a mix of design and hands-on implementation. You will have real world experience of public cloud architectures and migration strategies, leading the way in delivering great outcomes for our clients. As a senior member of the team, you will have a good understanding of the different factors which influence or inhibit cloud adoption and will be able to guide clients to make the right choices - in short, you'll be able to advise clients when cloud is (and isn't) the right answer to the client's business challenges. Our best partners are self-aware, grounded, and act in a positive way that builds trust and confidence over time - we value building long-term relationships with our stakeholders, be they clients, shareholders, or our partners. Your future duties and responsibilities As a technical advisory AWS Solution Architect, you'll be working with a varied mix of clients and wide range of projects. You'll be delivering work at high and low level; Shaping, strategy, technical design as well as being 'on the tools' - a modern architect is as comfortable with engineering and code as they are writing design documentation. Every project will present a different challenge; so, if you are enthusiastic and adaptable, this is an opportunity for you to thrive. We strongly value hands-on professional experience using cloud native services - whilst we understand that certification is part of the journey for our staff, we are looking for people who can bring their knowledge to bear in practical, real-world circumstances rather than purely citing theory. Many of our departmental roles are built to get people into our industry at a foundational level, but our architects are primarily those who can bring - and share - previous experience to the table rather than just qualifications. Similarly, we are looking for architects who have used services beyond just EC2 and S3 - our experience tells us that the most successful cloud transformations involve more than just moving virtual machines from one data centre to another. Required qualifications to be successful in this role Due to the varied nature of the role, it's impossible to list all the responsibilities, skills and experience but typically our cloud and infrastructure consultants: • Have established, broad technical skills with SME knowledge in one or more specialist areas • Have experience working with modern methodologies and frameworks (Agile, Scrum, SAFe, Kanban etc.) • Have experience implementing and working with modern IT practices, tools, and philosophies such as DevOps, DevSecOps, and infrastructure as code • Can quickly develop close working relationships with stakeholders and team members, engaging at an appropriate level • Are able to understand - and challenge - client requirements, including aligning the solution/technology with the desired outcome in both technical and financial terms • Manage stakeholders at all levels and balance risk vs reward vs cost • Identify opportunities for improvement and follow-on work • Bring fresh ideas based on past successes (and failures) from previous engagements to new scenarios • Are self-managed, motivated, and can work independently • Support the development of other team members by knowledge sharing and mentoring Required qualifications to be successful in this role Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate several of the following criteria: • Architectural design skills and hands-on implementation experience with a range of infrastructure and cloud services • Experience with designing and delivering AWS services, encompassing IaaS, PaaS and SaaS solutions. • Experience with the design of platforms incorporating infrastructure as code platforms such as Terraform and Ansible • Technical leadership • Experience of presenting solutions to clients • The ability to build and lead technical teams • Stakeholder management Desirable qualifications We would be keen to hear from candidates who have any of the additional criteria listed below: • Awareness of other cloud providers such as Azure, GCP, and/or OCI, encompassing IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS solutions • Awareness of the benefits and drawbacks of containerisation • Experience with on-premise infrastructure solutions, including integration with cloud services • Experience with one or more scripting language such as Python Together, as owners, let's turn meaningful insights into action. Life at CGI is rooted in ownership, teamwork, respect and belonging. Here, you'll reach your full potential because...
