Lead Systems Engineer

Job Title: Lead Systems Engineer Location: Rochester, Kent. Salary: Up to £75,000 depending on experience and skills What you'll be doing: Understanding our customers complex needs and collaborating to develop, validate and manage requirements at multiple levels Developing complex system architectures and sub-systems using a Model Based Systems Engineering approach Integration, analysis and test of real time systems containing multiple technical disciplines such as electronic, mechanical, optical and software sub-systems Taking accountability for collaborative technical work package execution and associated outcomes Providing guidance, coaching and nurturing talent in other engineers Verifying that customer needs are satisfied Steering new and improved systems development through implementation whilst making use of best practice systems lifecycle processes alongside techniques such as Learn First and Agile Your skills and experiences: Essential: Proven experience developing systems in relevant product markets and/or domains, such as control systems, real time displays, embedded software or safety related systems, using design methodologies such as agile product development Experience in requirements management, analysis, modelling and/or simulation, using tools such as Siemens Polarion, DOORS®, CAMEO, Enterprise Architect, MATLAB and/or Simulink A degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant STEM subject (e.g. Engineering, Computing, Physics or Mathematics) Desirable: Experience in integration, test, and/or verification of real time and/or safety related systems Understanding of safety assessment processes including how these processes influence the design Customer and/or supplier liaison experience for technical aspects, verifying and obtaining agreement that customer needs are satisfied An understanding of information assurance, cyber security and environmental impact aspects relating to real time embedded engineering products Benefits: As well as a competitive pension scheme, BAE Systems also offers employee share plans, an extensive range of flexible discounted health, wellbeing and lifestyle benefits, including a green car scheme, private health plans and shopping discounts - you may also be eligible for an annual incentive. Communications Systems Lead Engineer

Who are you? An experienced communication system engineer, you will have a proven track record in defining and delivering complex systems from initial feasibility / concept studies through to design, delivery and test. A self-starter who has a proven ability to manage risks and take pragmatic approaches to resolving technical issues. Educated to at least degree -level or equivalent in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline with a demonstrable ability in application of RF and digital signal processing. Derivation and management of technical requirements for the development of communication systems and equipment. Demonstrable ability in verification and testing of communication systems. Experience with secure communication systems with knowledge of aspects such as cryptography, key exchange and physical layer protection. Proven ability to lead and manage technical teams. Good understanding of requirements for various space mission types in LEO, GEO and MEO environments and how different standards apply to each. Familiarity with applicable licensing implications and industry practice as laid out by ITU regulations, ECSS requirements and CCSDS standards. Excellent communicator, both written and verbal. Good planning skills for development projects, confident working in project delivery. What will you be doing here? You will be responsible for designing, developing, building and testing communication systems. With support from team leaders, you will manage a team of technical specialists across Electronics and RF disciplines and be responsible for the line management of engineers within the group. You will deliver a wide range of projects to a variety of customers including government and commercial organisations. You will work within project teams to ensure appropriate communication system definition for both space and ground segments, ensuring these systems are planned and implemented efficiently. You will be responsible for the derivation of technical requirements and creation of test and verification plans, ensuring clear interaction with all relevant subsystems / engineering disciplines.
